AN ACT to incorporate the Ruhunu Cultural Institution.

[Date of Commencement: 22nd June, 1988]

1. Short title.

This Act may be cited as the Ruhunu Cultural Institution (Incorporation) Act.

2. Incorporation of the Ruhunu Cultural Institution.

From and after the commencement of this Act such and so many persons as, are new members of the Ruhunu Cultural Institution (hereinafter referred to as "the Institution”) and whose names appear in the First Schedule to this Act, or shall hereafter be admitted as members of the Corporation hereby constituted, shall be a body corporate (hereinafter referred to as "the Corporation”) with perpetual succession under the name and style of the "Ruhunu Cultural Institution”, and by that name may sue and be sued in all courts, with full power and authority to have and use a common seal and alter the same at its discretion.

3. General objects of the Corporation.

The general objects for which the Corporation is constituted are hereby declared to be—

(a) to plan and execute programmes and activities for the development and continued maintenance of education, arts and crafts, dance, poems and music pertaining to the culture of Ruhunu;

(b) to take the necessary steps to promote educational, cultural, welfare and sports activities of the members and of affiliated institutions;

(c) to establish a Cultural Centre and maintain it; and

(d) to do all such other acts and things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the above objects.
