AN ACT to incorporate the Surveyors' Institute of Sri Lanka.

[Date of Commencement: 31st May, 1982]

1. Short title.

This Act may be cited as the Surveyors' Institute of Sri Lanka (Incorporation) Act.

2. Incorporation of the Surveyors' Institute of Sri Lanka.

From and after the date of commencement of this Act, such and so many persons as now are corporate members of the Surveyors' Institute of Sri Lanka (hereinafter referred to as "the Institute”) or shall hereafter be admitted corporate members of the Corporation hereby constituted, (so long as they continue to be corporate members) shall be and become a body corporate with perpetual succession under the style and name of "The Surveyors' Institute of Sri Lanka” (hereinafter referred to as "the Corporation”) and by that name may sue and be sued in all courts, with full power and authority to have and to use a common seal and to change and alter the same at its will and pleasure.

3. Eligibility for membership.

Membership of the Corporation shall be restricted to—

(a) any person holding a licence granted by the Surveyor General to practice as a, land surveyor or as a leveler or as a surveyor and leveler; and

(b) any person who is for the time being in the service of the Survey department and holding a post mentioned in paragraph 9 of Schedule A to the Surveyors Ordinance.
